Webcraft Website Construction - #4 - Theme conception - Theme analysis to conception for a hypothetical website:

Construction Promotion Training Back Office
Submit your website information to a 1000 search engines and directories.

Building on theme analysis to conception of a theme for a hypothetical website.

If for example it was determined you were creating this website for the purpose of providing information and suppose because of your love for pets, you want to offer your knowledge in a website for general care and grooming of pets. You might also want to consider offering your skills in a localized grooming service (in the area you live)!

We'll say it's to do with dogs more specifically rather than all pet animals. You may also consider narrowing your focus to only a specific breed if this would be beneficial but I would suggest to keep your theme in most cases, fairly broad because we can 'individualize' within our theme.

We now arrive at:

- pets - dogs - grooming and care - [service? - your city, area or country].

We can now also compile some important title descriptions for our site:

WEB SITE PURPOSE: To provide an informative resource guide on the grooming and care of pet dogs [and a localized grooming service].

WEB SITE THEME: Grooming and care of pet dogs

PRINCIPAL KEY-PHRASE: "Pet dog grooming"

KEY-PHRASES: "pet dogs", "pet dog grooming", "pet dog care", "pet dog grooming care", "pet dog grooming service (city, area or country)"

HOMEPAGE TITLE: "Pet dog grooming, care and service, (your city or area here)"

By accurately defining our site's purpose, we can clearly derive at the focus for our site (website theme).

The individual words of our homepage title are actually our keywords (derived from our purpose and theme) and when grouped together in a logical form, they serve more importantly as key-phrases.

People query search engines by entering groups of words together to form a key-phrase - they do not normally enter one word only on any particular subject. The web is just too vast now and with so many pages online, we have to capture specifically our target audience.

The word "grooming" can relate in ways to other animals and even humans. It serves no purpose to draw in people that want something unrelated to our theme. This reinforces why we must be honest and accurate about the theme of our site.

The page title (the homepage title in this case) is arguably the most important tag that is picked up by search engines as a key determining factor of the relevancy of the page to the search query result.

We can't just string our keywords together to influence search engines because humans read title tags also and it's quite obvious when people blatantly abuse a title tag in hope of influencing search engines.

This type of attitude can result in your site being barred from the search engines but in any case, we must strive to be more creative and efficient with our principal keywords. You must understand we are dealing with two uniquely different types of audiences that we must win over (i.e. automated search engines and humans).

Try Google and see the results when we entered "pet dog grooming" (with or without quotes) as a search query. This will give you some idea of what Google drags in from the principal key-phrase of this example. Take note of more importantly the titles (in blue) and parts of the web page's text. Google will try and make the best possible match for a page with the most relevancies to your searched phrase.

Now we have our site's focus, we can move on and think about possible site structuring within our theme.

Good luck and have fun searching.
