Webmasters Tips - Content & Copywriting Tips

Blog Comment Policies

Do most of your blog entries get followed up by comment spam or "trolls" (people who make desperate attempts to get attention)? If this has been a blight on your site, and if you worry that their replies might drag down the quality of your site, continue reading.

Do you wonder if it would be better to limit replies to only a few people, or whether it would be better to continue letting every person comment? Both options -- strict moderation and no moderation -- have good and bad aspects.

An "exclusive" system in which only a few authorized people are allowed to reply might not be fair to some intelligent people. On the other hand, strict policies will cut back on poor or deliberately bad blog comments.

The "open" system in which just about everyone is allowed to reply might cause your blog to be dominated by vocal or malicious individuals. On the other hand, it allows everyone to have a voice.

  • Don't register a name in bad faith - it's actually illegal.
  • Choose a name that will also be easy to recall from memory.
  • Its never been cheaper - there's just no excuse!
  • Creates a professional image for your site [business].
  • Some engines don't index submissions from free (non-domain) sites.
  • A good, creative name could be worth far more in the future.
  • Don't register a trademarked business name or phrase.
  • Caution with similar (influential) names which are already registered.
