Webmasters Tips - Affiliate Program Tips Restrictions When choosing an affiliate program, look to see if there are restrictions on your site design or content. Some of the larger companies will not let you into their affiliate program if your site has pop-up or pop-behind ad windows - keep this in mind, too, when you're selecting the web hosting service. Almost all companies are also concerned about the content of their affiliates' site - this makes sense since they do not want their brand name to be associated with sites that might tarnish their reputation. Many companies are also concerned with what kind of sites you are linked to. Copyright © 2000 - 2006 by [Webcraft.ws]. All rights reserved. Adjust each of your Web pages accordingly, then submit it! Just submitting your site won't do the job. You need to optimize your Web pages. Fortunately, Microsoft's search engine submission tool, Submit It!, includes a number of optimization tools and resources designed to do just that. Preparing your site will involve these four steps. • Finding out where your site stands • Submitting pages that are ready • Running readiness checks • Adjusting your Web pages, and then submitting the newly optimized pages. Let's take a closer look at just how these four steps can help you get the most out of Submit It! and optimize your Web site before you enter it in the search engines. 1. Finding out where your site stands. Your first step in the optimization process is to find out if there are any pages on your Web site that will respond to your initial keyword search. Enter your URL into the spidering wizard, along with generic keywords that describe your business. For example, let's say that you run a hair salon. You start by identifying three keywords, such as "haircut," "hairstyle" and "beauty salon." Once you have entered these into the Site Spidering Wizard, the tool will go through your Web site and tell you how many pages are ready to be submitted and how many need work. This initial search will tell you how much work you will have to do to get the best search engine results for your Web site. 2. Submitting the pages that are ready. If any pages pass the readiness check in your first attempt, submit them immediately. This allows your site to get listed in search engines right away while you work with your remaining pages. 3. Running readiness checks. After the Spider Wizard is complete, you will find out which of your Web pages need more work. Choose the most important pages and use the Readiness Check tool to optimize these individual selections. A critical step in search engine optimization is to identify the three best keyword phrases for your business. Submit It's Keyword Research Tool will help you remove the guesswork by suggesting the best choices, based on actual user searches. Select the phrases that best describe your business. Keep in mind that you will need to vary your keyword phrases for each individual page. The tool will then show you which of your selections are likely to get the best results in search engines. You also will be shown how many people have searched for this word and the number of listings they can find it in. Use these numbers as a guide to maximize your success. If the number of listings is low while the number of people searching is high, this will give your pages a higher position in the search engines. Once the readiness check is complete, you'll see a report that identifies potential problems on the page being analyzed. For example, if words from your primary keyword phrases are not in the title tag for the page, this is indicated under the Primary Keyword Phrase report. It is important to remember that this analysis relates to the keywords that you saved in the previous step. The Readiness Check report looks at several things that could cause difficulties in getting your Web page listed properly in a search engine. 4. Adjust each of your Web pages accordingly, then submit it! You've seen whatever problems have been pointed out during the readiness check, and the final step is to make any needed corrections. This often involves changing your title tag to include your primary keyword phrase, updating Image Alt tags, and tweaking the keywords on your page. In some cases, recoding of HTML and rewriting the readable copy may also be recommended. Once you are satisfied with your page adjustments, you are now ready to submit Web pages to the search engines using the Submit Center tools.
