If you rattle off names of people who are more clued up on your own product than you then you need to roll up those shirtsleeves, put down the remote control and get cracking on your product knowledge. Now that it's settled that you know more than anyone it follows that you know more than your clients - So Teach Them What You Know!
By giving advice and teaching them more about the product than they would usually know you are doing a few things (1) fostering a relationship built on trust which means they'll turn to you and your company when they need help in the future (2) providing more than just "good service" which will get them talking to their friends about your product and keep them coming back for more.
Michael Dell of Dell Computers says: "In becoming a valued advisor to your customers you need to look beyond the product you are selling and seek ways to enhance the total customer experience"
Questions to answer and things to do: What advice do you (and your staff) currently give to your clients? What have you taught your customers this month? This year? Are you giving them valuable info and tips that can help them to enjoy your product or service even more than they currently are? Remember if they enjoy your product to the max they will be sharing their delight with others. What are you going to do to increase the quality of the advice that your clients are getting? Your website is a great place add tips regarding your product and to show your prospective customers that you are the expert in what they are looking for. The only way that your clients are going to know that you give good advice is if you give them some good advice before they buy the product. And make sure that it is good advice! Make a deal with yourself to phone or email at least 10 of your clients this week and ask them how everything is going (or went) with your product/service and offer them advice on any aspect of it that they need. Add a page to your site called "Handy Hints" or "Top Tips" or just simply "Advice".
